European Academy Contributes to the SPM² Project to Advance Sustainable Project Management Education

European Academy is proud to be a member of the Sustainable Project Management through PM² (SPM²) project, an ambitious initiative that integrates sustainability into project management education. Co-funded by the European Union, SPM² aligns the PM² methodology with sustainability principles, equipping future project managers with the skills to lead environmentally responsible projects and support the transition to a green economy.

Bringing Sustainability into Project Management

The SPM² project builds upon the European Commission’s PM² methodology, adapting it into a structured framework that embeds sustainability across all project phases. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between project management education and industry needs, ensuring that professionals are trained to implement eco-conscious, impact-driven strategies in their projects.

To achieve this, the project focuses on:

  • Developing the SPM² Guide & Digital Hub – A central online platform offering practical resources, templates, case studies, and interactive learning tools for sustainable project management.
  • Creating a Standardized Curriculum – Aligning project management education with sustainability principles to equip professionals with green skills.
  • Launching Micro-Credentials & Training Programs – Introducing stackable, industry-recognized certifications to support career growth and professional development.
  • Establishing Certification & Recognition – Collaborating with HEIs and certification bodies to ensure SPM² is widely recognized across Europe.

The Impact of SPM²

The SPM² project will create lasting benefits for education, industry, and policy by:

  • Enhancing Green & Digital Skills – Equipping project managers with sustainability-focused competencies to lead responsible and efficient projects.
  • Improving Career Mobility – Offering internationally recognized micro-credentials that support professional growth and open new job opportunities.
  • Supporting EU Sustainability Goals – Training professionals to integrate sustainable principles into project management, contributing to the European Green Deal.

Encouraging Widespread Adoption of Sustainable Practices – Promoting the SPM² framework across higher education institutions, businesses, and the public sector.
