July 2024 PM² Training Delivers In-Depth Techniques for Managing EU-Funded Projects

Between 11 and 12 July 2024, professionals gathered online for the PM² Project Management Methodology for EU Funded Projects course. This intensive program provided attendees with a deep understanding of the European Commission’s PM² project management approach, offering tools and techniques essential for managing EC-funded initiatives effectively.

The Q&A sessions of the course focused on two critical agenda topics: Stakeholder Management and Project Monitoring and Control—two pillars of effective project governance.

Stakeholder Management and Engagement

Participants explored the PM² framework’s approach to stakeholder management, which emphasizes identifying, analyzing, and prioritizing stakeholders based on their influence and impact on project success. Through hands-on activities, attendees practiced creating stakeholder matrices and defining tailored engagement strategies to enhance communication and collaboration. A key question that arose was, “How can we balance diverse stakeholder expectations in complex, multi-partner projects?” Trainers provided strategies for creating alignment and maintaining engagement across various stakeholder groups, a challenge often encountered in EU-funded projects.

Project Monitoring and Control Techniques

The course also covered PM²’s monitoring and control processes, equipping participants with practical techniques for tracking project progress and making adjustments as needed. This segment focused on applying the PM² artefacts for performance tracking, issue management, and risk mitigation. During this session, attendees discussed questions like, “What are effective ways to manage change requests without derailing the project schedule?” Trainers introduced PM²’s structured change management process, along with tips for maintaining control over scope, budget, and timeline.

In addition to these sessions, participants received access to PM² artefacts and templates, which they practiced using in virtual breakout rooms. The collaborative exercises, facilitated via Miro, helped reinforce the application of PM² in real-world scenarios, making the learning experience highly practical and interactive.

Pathway to PM² Certification

Participants also received a complimentary voucher for the PM² Basic Certification Exam, enabling them to validate their knowledge and enhance their project management credentials within the EU framework.
