From March 13-15, 2024, researchers, proposal writers, and project managers from across Europe and beyond participated in an intensive three-day online course, Proposal Writing for Research & Innovation Projects. This hands-on training was specifically crafted to enhance the skills necessary for crafting competitive proposals, particularly for Horizon Europe and other EU-funded R&D and Innovation programs.
Led by seasoned evaluator and development planner Chrisa Petritsi, the course covered the essential stages of proposal writing. Participants learned how to match their project ideas with the most relevant funding streams, develop a compelling project concept, and create a structured work plan. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, attendees gained valuable insights into drafting impactful statements, budgeting effectively, and designing robust risk management strategies.
Key Highlights and Practical Exercises
The course featured a comprehensive breakdown of Horizon Europe requirements, with a focus on building competitive Impact sections. Participants worked through hands-on exercises, including a workshop on developing an “imaginary project” proposal, which provided a collaborative platform for applying best practices in real time. This exercise emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, with attendees from diverse fields contributing to a multifaceted project concept.
Each day concluded with open discussion sessions, allowing participants to ask specific questions, share insights, and request additional information on topics of interest. This structure ensured a customized learning experience, tailored to each attendee’s professional background and proposal-writing goals.
